What’s a Chinchilla?

What’s a Chinchilla?

I’m babysitting my cousin’s chinchilla so I decided to do a post on chinchillas. (in general)

Chinchillas are native rodents from the Andes Mountains in South America. There are two type of species the long-tailed and short-tailed chinchilla.

In the wild the long-tailed chinchilla can weigh from 0.81 – 1.1 lbs while the short-tailed chinchillas can weigh up to 3.1 lbs.

But those weights now have change for many of these chinchillas. A while ago people were hunting them for their extremely soft fur to make coats and rugs. As they were becoming extinct the government decided to put an end to the killing, making a law preserving their habitat; soon people started taking chinchillas in as pets.
